DID FOC25 is a three-day orientation camp organised by Year 2 Industrial Design students for the incoming freshmen of NUS Industrial Design. The camp aims to ease the Year 1s into student life through bonding activities, team games, and a warm welcome to the DID community. This year’s camp was themed around a playful reinterpretation of a supermarket, resulting in the name “DID Mart.” From branding to programmes, the entire experience was shaped around this concept.

Branding a Playful Experience

We wanted the camp to reflect our sense of camaraderie and humour. Instead of a serious, overly polished identity, we embraced a more whimsical tone across all our design collaterals, from our Instagram posts to the group merchandise. Through bright colours, fun typefaces, and snack-themed puns, we brought DID Mart to life in a way that felt accessible, energetic, and genuinely us.

To build group identity and amp up the fun, each group was represented by a cereal mascot. These mascots were inspired by existing cereal brands but given a DID twist. Names and designs were playfully altered to create something familiar yet unique.

Bringing the Aisle Online

Our socials brought the DID Mart spirit to life with a mix of playful visuals and casual updates. From sneak peeks of the camp experience to sponsor shoutouts and committee intros, everything was designed to feel light, approachable, and a little tongue-in-cheek. Whether you were keeping tabs out of curiosity or excitement, the feed gave you a sense of what to expect without taking itself too seriously.

The DID Handbook Zine Pack

One of the new initiatives we introduced this year was the “DID Handbook Zine Pack.” Styled like supermarket items, these mini zines were curated collections of advice, tips, and honest reflections from seniors. Each zine tackled a different topic, from time management and CAD struggles to surviving submissions. By including voices from the past batches, we hoped to create a guide that felt authentic and comforting — something the freshmen could flip through during the semester whenever they needed a little reassurance.

Designing for Connection

More than just a theme, DID Mart was about building connections between campers, with seniors, and to the space they’ll be spending the next few years in. Every visual and activity was designed to spark laughter, create memories, and help the incoming students feel like they already belonged.
